The weather finally broke, opening up the patio for some fine cigars along with tasting 3 unique whiskies. We started out with a very different whiskey, Delta Dirt Distillery Sweet Roots Arkansas Brown, which is a highly rated whiskey distilled in accordance with all bourbon criteria except their added ingredient is sweet potato roots on top of the corn, rye and barley. Meeting #27 - Derby May '26 - WF Derby Edition 152, New Riff, Old Forester 1924
Our May meeting was a Nod to the Kentucky Derby, complete with Hot Brown Sandwiches made famous by the Brown Hotel in Louisville and 3 fine Kentucky Bourbons! We started off with the Woodford Reserve Kentucky Derby Edition # 152, then tasted a somewhat “new-kid-on-the-block” New Riff 8-year Straight Bourbon Whiskey, founded 12 years ago in Newport, KY just across the river from Cincinnati. Lastly, our get-off-the-stage selection was our most expensive taste, Old Forester 1924

Meeting #26 - April ’26 – Benchmark Bottled-In-Bond, Fog City, and Penelope Rio
April brought us 3 new bourbons, all scoring well with our crowd, along the model of a less expensive, dare we say “cheap,” a moderately priced drinker, and a more expensive bourbon, at least in the view of a “cheap” pilot. And…….cheap almost won the day just .05 points off the winner!
